Purpose
This site is intended to be a central resource for information regarding all aspects of robotic combat. It is to be filled with articles that provide clear and focused information on numerous topics ranging from broad (i.e motors) to very specific (i.e. The Briggs and Stratton ETEK). In order for this to be a useful resource, pages must: stay on topic, be organized, and be free from unsubstantiated biased opinions. The articles should be written to give both factual data and real-world experience.
The Wiki Idea
If you have no idea what this "wiki" thing is, it is the concept behind such successful sites as Wikipedia. The Introduction page on Wikipedia gives a good overview of the idea and process.
The Wiki concept is ideal for the robot combat world. Robot builders represent a community that possesses a large quantity of knowledge spread all around the globe. By establishing a central source for information, we can consolidate this knowledge so that anyone can quickly locate topics of interest and learn about this sport from those with the most experience. It is open to anyone both to read and contribute because everyone has some advice to give, and we all can learn from others' experience.
Yes, you can edit anything that anyone else has written. Don't be afraid to contribute! As they say on Wikipedia: Be bold, but don't be reckless! Stupidity in the form of vandalism and flaming/ranting will not be tolerated. Posting irrelevant links to your website or calling people "gay" are not very funny things to do. It's been done before - you're not some l337 h4xx0r. Remember: Everyone is watching.
Policy
This site is being established with the anticipation that time will tell the direction and conventions of the Combat Robotics Wiki. As these conventions develop, they will be written into the Project:Policy page.
The combat robot wiki is not affiliated with, endorsed by, nor owned by ComBots, LLC. It is hosted here as a service to the combat robot community.
This is not an RFL sanctioned website, and is not officially affiliated with, nor endorsed by the RFL.
