! Spinners; 04:48 . . 69.244.213.105 (Talk) (restored point of view, tempered comments. it's not always about winning.)

In my experience, people who say "It's not about winning" are people who have never won.

Since the above un-named editor and commentor likes to cite deffinitions from the dictionary (see Active Weapon or Not?) -- let's examine 'Tournament':

A series of contests in which a number of contestants compete and the one that prevails through the final round or that finishes with the best record is declared the winner.

Therefore, a tournament is about winning. Whatever your personal reasons are for competing are another matter, but they don't need to be voiced in a factual article on robot design.

I've won plenty, I've got several first-place and second-place finishes with active-weaponed and non-active-weaponed designs, not to mention the Best Engineered and Most Destructive ones. I've played both sides, and I enjoy the added challenge of building bots with weapons. That said, my "best engineered" trophy was for a spinner, same with the "most destructive".

The sport is also a hobby. If that wasn't the case, everyone would go out to buy a kit and it'd be boring. Fact is, people spend gobs of time on their bots, and many enjoy challenging themselves- that's why there are such awards as "Most Creative use of _____", "Best Engineered" "Craftsmanship Award"(next TCO), "Most Destructive", etc.

Even farther than that, if it's about spinners, and it's the truth, it should be on this page, be it pro or anti(as long as both are evenly represented)

The Miss America contest has lotsa awards, too. It's to make losers feel better. Nobody remembers who won 'Miss Congeniality'. Like racers say, finishing second just makes you the first guy to lose.

If it's about spinners and it's the truth, it SHOULD be on this page. If it's opinion or propaganda, leave it off.

If I can build a machine that is more fun to drive and watch, and the only penalty is being second place(as in my last competition), I'm happy. I don't see why you need to insult me personally- does it make you feel better?

I feel just fine, thank you, with or without anything you may choose to say, do, or react to.

I don't know you, and I've never seen your 'bots. Just how personal can my comments be? I have made references to my opinions on groups of people to which you may feel you belong -- or not.

I don't agree with your opinions and I dislike your approach to this wiki. Now, wasn't it you who wrote in another 'talk' section:

"...Don't like someone's attitude? Don't like their sense of humor? Too freakin bad."

If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

Please don't misquote me-that was in reference to one's personal link, not the wiki as a whole.

"Just how personal can my comments be?" Well, they're made to a person, aren't they?

Seriously. That information belongs on the Wedges page.

I'm tagging this page as part of my THWACKBOT/TRANSLATIONAL-DRIFT/MELTY PROJECT - more info on my user talk page. Basically I want to update several pages to reflect the newest generation of robots with weapons that rely on the entire robot rotating, which are very different from traditional thwackbots.

I think the only thing I'd do here is add a blurb to "sub-classifications" to reflect translational drift spinners. --Mooreshire 08:25, 7 August 2010 (PDT)
