Transmitter

From Combat Robot

Jump to: navigation, search

The transmitter is the device which communicates the driver's commands to the robot's on-board receiver. Radio control transmitters can range from hacked AM band toy controllers through digital hobby radios and on into computer hardware interfaces. The currently active event holders (RFL, NERC, BattleBots, etc.) each have their own very similar safety regulations regarding which robot types can use which varieties of radio systems.

Transmitters are matched to their application based on the control setup, the number of channels they transmit, the frequency on which they do so, as well as their programming capabilities. A two channel transmitter could control a drivetrain's forward and backward movement as well as its turning, a third channel could control a weapon motor or servo, a fourth perhaps a SRiMech, and so on. Some transmitters have convenient built-in mixing capabilities.
