Transmitter modes

Control stick radio control transmitters are typically referred to as being either Mode 1 or Mode 2 depending on the assignment of channel 2 (elevator) and channel 3 (throttle) to the right and left control sticks.
- Mode 1 is standard in Europe. Channel 3 is assigned to the vertical axis on the right stick and channel 2 is assigned to the vertical axis on the left stick.
- Mode 2 is standard in the United States. Channel 2 is assigned to the vertical axis on the right stick and channel 3 is assigned to the vertical axis on the left stick.
Most computerized transmitters have the ability to switch between modes thru a menu function or by use of special key sequences. Some inexpensive transmitters (such as the Spektrum brand) do not have the ability to switch thru software, but may be purchased in either mode.
Since any device may be plugged into any receiver output, the only impact of different modes in in the assignment of sticks for transmitter-based mixes. The table below shows the combination of mode and mixing required to place the throttle and steering control on the sticks you desire:
